Carl Rogers Farrell, son of Fred J. and Esther Agnes Lutz Farrell, was born in rural Chariton on October 24, 1935; and passed away Monday, March 15, 1999 at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Knoxville. He had been there only a short time.
Carl had been a meat cutter at the Super Valu food store in Knoxville for many years; retiring only a few months ago.
His first love was music. He was an accomplished guitar and violin player. He had his own band and also played with many of the stars in Nashville, including Lorretta Lynn.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ed and Charles; and sister, Barbara Agan.
Survivors include his sons, Allen of Melcher-Dallas; Mike of Bessamer, Alabama; and Ed of Milwaukee; daughters, Tina Dolph of Des Moines;
Carleen Mason and Linda Glover, both of Melcher-Dallas; Marina Weis of Van Meter; and Barbara Ackles of Friendswood, Texas; along with 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also, surviving are two sisters, Mary Colbert and Johnetta Farrell, both of Chariton; and brothers, Joe and Jerry, both of Chariton; Robert of Houston, Texas; Richard of Tingley Park, Illinois; and Don of Vail, Iowa.
Funeral services for Carl Farrell were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 1999, at the Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton. The service was conducted by Father Allen Stetz of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Special music was recorded songs of "Whispering Pines" and "Call Me Lonesome" by Carl Farrell and "Galeria Cowboy" by Carl's nephew, Steve Farrell. Music at the cemetry was Roy Roger's version of "Happy Trails To You." Bearers for the service were Andy Farrell, Bob Colbert, Pat Farrell, Rick Konrad, Dave Mason, Jim Farrell, Chad Irving, and Dean Piagentini.
Interment was in the Calvary Cemetery of Chariton. Funeral arrangements were by Mosher Funeral Home.
