Richard "Dick" Randall Farrell, 79, of Yorkville and formerly of Tinley Park, died on January 19, 2006 at his home. He was born in Lucas, Iowa, the son of Fred and Esther Farrell.
Richard was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 42 years, starting as a telegrapher in Grinnell, Iowa and working his way up to become a senior executive in Chicago.
Richard later worked for Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad. He worked for CWS Industries until he retired in 2003.
Richard was given the Physical Fitness Award by Tinley Park Jaycees for his leadership in community youth sports. He enjoyed woodworking,
drawing, and telling a good joke. Richard spent time with his friends over a cup of coffee every morning at Sunfields ad Silver Dollar in Yorkville. His greatest love was for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Cecilia; his children: Robbi Farrell, Julie (David) Davenport, Tom (Nancy) Farrell, Cathy Jacobs, and Amy (Jim)
Porter; his grandchildren: Kelly, Laura, and Colleen Farrell; Brittany, Taylor, and Katie Jacobs; and Tommy Porter; numberous nieces and nephews.
His parents; and a son, Johnny Farrell, preceded him in death.
A Mass of Chrisian Burial was held on Tuesday, January 24 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 406 Walnut St. in Yorkville. Interment followed
at St. Patrick Cemetery in Bristol. The family received guests Monday, January 23 at the Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway in Montgomery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial would be appreciated for Provena Hospice, 77 N. Airlite St., Suite 260, Elgin, Illinois 60123.
