The case of the State of Iowa against HARLEY NISWENDER, charged with
bastardy and seduction, was settled by the parties out of court, Tuesday,
and what promised to be a sensational affair closes without trial. The case
was called up Monday, a jury selected and the cause proceeded until on
Tuesday forenoon the parties got together and agreed on a compromise. The
aggrieved lady accepts $400, which together with the costs, is to be paid by
the defendant. This was a case wherein a young man, recently married, by
wiles had won anew the affections of a former sweetheart and had induced an
unlawful intimacy with the usual results in such cases.
