The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, February 27, 1908

A very pretty home wedding was solemnized the evening of Feb. 20, at 8 p.m.,
at the home of MR. and MRS. EDWARD SPENCER, southwest of Lucas, when their
only daughter MISS LILLIE CATHERINE was united in holy bonds of matrimony to
CLAUDE M. FIERCE, son of MRS. SAMUEL WALKER of Jay. Previous to the
ceremony Miss Elvessa Newsome, of Derby, sang very beautifully the song
entitled "I Love You Truly" after which the bride and groom, unattended,
entered the parlor to the strains of Mendelssohn's wedding march, played by
Miss Wilda B. Spencer, of Des Moines, cousin of the bride, and took their
places before a bank of flowers and beneath a large white bell suspended
from an archway of white wreathed with smilax and flowers where Rev. Pond
pronounced them husband and wife in his usual earnest and impressive manner.

The bride was beautifully and becomingly dressed in a gown of white, trimmed
with net over silk. She wore a bridal veil caught in her hair with white
roses, and carried a large bouquet of bride's roses.

The home was tastefully decorated in flowers. The table was adorned in
ferns and carnations and a beautiful white bride's cake trimmed in pink
hearts and bearing the date of the marriage formed an effective centerpiece.
A three-course dinner was served to about fifty of the immediate friends
and relatives. The bride and groom were the recipients of many beautiful
and useful presents which will be of use in their new home west of Lucas,
where they will reside after March 1st.

The bride is well known, having taught in the Lucas and Clarke County public
schools for a number of years and has by her true character and womanliness
won many friends. The groom has spent most of his life near Jay with the
exception of about four years in Nebraska. He is well known and highly
respected. A reception was given them Feb. 22, at the home of the groom's
parents, MR. and MRS. SAMUEL WALKER. An elaborate three-course dinner was
enjoyed by those present.
