The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, July 25, 1907

On last Thursday JONATHAN PULLEY, of Benton Township, had finished an even
eighty years of his pilgrimage on earth, but took nothing but a passing note
of it. However, his relatives and friends were more mindful of the event
and in the evening a host of a hundred or more marched against his walls and
demanded entrance to his stronghold. He surrendered without resistance and
they took possession of a good old fashioned time. They toasted him and
feasted him in a most royal manner until he confessed that it was a real
pleasure to grow old. MR. and MRS. PULLEY are among the first settlers of
Benton Township and have been held in high esteem by their neighbors and the
congratulations on this occasion were mutual.
