Hello John,

I have done extensive research on the McCleary family in this neck of the woods.

At one thime there were two George W. McCeary (s) living in Louisa Co.

One was the descendant of Abraham McCleary who was from Scotland and the other was of Alexander McCleary who came from Ireland.

Both came to the US in the late 1830's. Abraham bought land in Louisa County, and Alexander settled in Muscatine Co. (counties are side by side)

My husband is of the line of Alexander and we have that line documented to present day. Our George W. married Minnie and only had a son George W. This makes us no relation to you.

The other George W., according to some material I have, was the son of Isaac, (son of Abraham) who lived in Iowa. He had a brother John M. I do not have any other information on that line.

In trying to help you, where are you finding your John and Mahala McCleary living as reported by Federal Censuses?
