Elizabeth Willis Thompson was born in Muskingham county, Ohio, April 1, 1835 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.S. Grimes in Wapello, Iowa, Oct. 30, 1916, aged 91 years, 6 months and 29 days. On June 17, 1847, she was united in marriage to Andrew Thompson and to this union were born ten children, one dying in infancy, and a son, Robert N., August 29, 1872. Those living to mourn the loss of a mother's love are Mary E. Harkness, Creston, Iowa; Mrs. N. J. Armstrong, Columbus City, Iowa; Wm. L. Thompson, Oakland, Oregon; Mrs. W. S. Grimes, Wapello, Iowa; Mrs. W. D. Garmoe, Fairfield, Iowa; Mrs. J. A. Porter, Washington, Iowa; Oliver C. Thompson, Winfield, Iowa, Jay F. Thompson, Corbin, Kansas. Besides her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, there are two half brothers, Wm., and Lewis Willis, of Galesburg, Kansas.

Mrs. Thompson, with her husband and three children,came to Iowa Oct. 14, 1853, settling on a farm in Morning Sun township, making her one of the pioneers of Louisa county. They continued to live on the farm until 1887 when they moved to Morning Sun for two years, then to Columbus City, where Mr. Thompson died April 18, 1892. Mrs. Thomson continued to reside on Columbus City until 1902 when she moved to Crawfordsville and made her home until 1915, since which time she has lived with her daughters.

Deceased had been a member of the United Presbyterian church since the formation of that denomination. Mrs. Thompson was a faithful, consistent christian woman until claimed at a ripe old age by death. The remains were taken to Winfield Tuesday accompanied by her five daughters and funeral services were held at the U. P. church at 1:30 p. m. conducted by Rev. W. G. Robertson, her pastor at Crawfordsville, assisted by Rev. D. L. McBride of Winfield. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the beautiful cemetery at Winfield.
