Page 1Word was received here last Thursday announcing the death of Mrs. Jennie Smith, a former Columbus City resident, and an aunt of Dr. J. L. Overholt and S. M. Overholt. She had been a resident of Des Moines for a number of years and her death was not unexpected. Mrs. Smith was the wife of Dr. I. M. Smith, who was a well known Columbus City physician and who preceded her in death. Besides one daughter, Mrs. May Sweeney of Colorado and two sons, Prof. Robt. Smith and Dr. Channig Smith. She is also survived by one brother, Charles Overholt of Chicago and two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Foster of Indian, and Miss Ella Overholt of Ames.
The remains were brought to Columbus Junction from Des Moines Saturday morning and taken to the home of Dr. J. L. Overholt. The interment took place at 9:30 at the Columbus City cemetery, where a short service was conducted by Rev. W. E. Ruston. Mrs. Smith was born in Ohio in 1843 and came to Columbus City in 1853. She was married to Dr. Smith in September, 1853, and went to Des Moines in December, 1891, where she has since resided.
