Page 1Arthur Henry Dewein was born four miles west of Wapello, Feb. 16, 1870. When only two years of age, his mother died, and about two years after his father with the family moved to Pleasant Grove near Burlington and later to Burlington, where Arthur learned the trade of a printer, at which occupation her worked for several years. Mr. Dewein came to Wapello seventeen years ago and identified himself with the Ruthenberg clothing Co., of this place.
He continued in this business until three of four years ago when failing health compelled him to retire. Being of an energetic disposition he took up the work of farming which work he continued until a short time ago when he went to Davenport in the hope that daily treatment would restore him to health. He came home last Tuesday and on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 17, surrounded by loved ones he passed away.
On October 8, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Marie E. Otto, of this city and who survives him. Mr. Dewein was an upright, conscientious man. He was a good citizen, a kind husband and his death is a loss to the community. The funeral services were held from the home Saturday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by Rev. J. E. Newsom, assisted by Rev. S. B. Ross of Fairfield. The Masonic lodge, which he was a prominent member of took part in the services. Incitement in the Wapello cemetery.
