Mrs. Sarah Wilson was born in Hanover county, Pennsylvania, November 7, 1842 and died in Wapello, Louisa county, Iowa, January 9, 1910, aged 67 years, 2 months and 2 days. She was likely the last living member of her father's family. Her maiden name was Sarah Vance. She was married to O. Melvin Kirk in October, 1863, in Illinois. They came shortly after their marriage to Wapello, Iowa. Mr. Kirk enlisted in the Greybeard regiment in 1864 and died while in army service in the civil war at St. Louis, Mo., the same year. After his death she returned to Illinois and then back to Iowa. On April 25, 1869, at Wapello, Ia., she was married to Tarlton Wilson.

They made their home here and for the forty-one years until her death she and her husband have had their home in or near Wapello. She was a loving wife and kind neighbor. Though having no children of her own she became a loving and tender mother to others. Mrs. Harry Mellon was taken by her in childhood and loved as a daughter and Mrs. Ed. Kallenberger, Mrs. Mellon's daughter, has loved her as if she were an own mother. Also a nephew of Mr. Wilson's whose mother died when he was a child, was taken and reared from childhood until he was twenty one years of age.

She was very highly esteemed as a neighbor. A lover of beautiful flowers she had many about her home. In 1865 she united with the M. E,. church. She had been in declining health for some months but was cheerful and hopeful. She received every attention and possible care from her devoted husband. The funeral was held at the home Tuesday at 2 o'clock p. m., conducted by Rev. J. E. Newsom, pastor of the M. E. church. Interment in the Wapello cemetery.
