After an illness of several months Clarence Ashby passed away at his home in Jefferson township, Sept. 4, 1909. Clarence Ashby, son of James and Lydia Ashby, was born September 24, 1883; died September 4, 1909, aged 25 yeas, 11 months and 20 days. He spent his entire life in this vicinity, and was known as a young man of industry and integrity. Though in poor health he did his farm work till disease and death proved victorious. The funeral services were held from the M. E. church in Oakville Tuesday afternoon following at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. J. E. Evans. Interment in the Mallory cemetery west of Toolesboro.
