Page 1Karolina Floretine Louisa Winter was born Jan. 24, 1829, at Hunfeld, Germany, and came to America in April, 1844. She was married to Christian Winter (not a relative) on Nov. 28, 1848, at Pittstown, Mo. The latter was born in Nummerbrunch, Germany; July 19, 1819, and died in March, 1860, at Wapello, Iowa, to which place they moved from Warren county, Mo., in 1856. Eight children were born to this union as follows: Henry C., residing at Cimarron, Kansas; Christian, Oskaloosa, Iowa; Mrs. Caroline Weyrauch, Ankeny, Iowa, with whom she making her home at the time of her death; a pair of twins which died infancy; August, who died in early childhood; Lydia, wife of Will Wiederrecht, Davenport, Iowa.
She was again married to Mr. Julius Johann June 4, 1863, at Wapello, Iowa. Mr. Johann was born at Wermelskircheo, Kreis Lennep, Dusseldorf, Prussia, in 1827 and died Dec. 12, 1908. To them were born five children, all of whom are living, as follows: Charles, W., residing in Wapello; Mrs. Emma Lane, Shawnee, Okla; Hugo, Mt. pleasant, Iowa; Mrs. Laura Lewis, Denver, Colo; Mrs. Matilda Hatch, Shawnee, Okla. She is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren and three great grandchildren also two half sisters, Mrs. Minnie Thalenhorst, La Harpe; Mrs. Herman Otto, Wapello, Iowa and one half brother, L. C. Winter, Wapello.
The remains were brought from Ankeny to Wapello yesterday and the funeral services were held at the Ger. M. E. church yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. F. J. Sternberg, pastor, of which church she was a life long member. Interment in the Wapello cemetery.
