Page 1Mrs. Elizabeth Rosana Hensley was born January 15, 1851, in Louisa county, Iowa and died in Des Moines, Iowa, May 26, 1909, aged 58 years, 5 months and 11 days. She grew to womanhood at her birthplace the family farm home in Fairview vicinity in Wapello township. At the age of twenty-one she was married to George W. Hensley August 28, 1873, in the house which had thus far always been her home. She and her husband made their new home in Virginia for about three years, until 1876, when they moved back to Iowa, where they lived for about sixteen years, when in 1892 they moved again to Virginia and lived for eight years where he husband died in March 4,1900.
Nine children were born to them, four of whom preceded her to the better world, and the following five remain to mourn their loss: Mrs. Nina Pearl Webster, Des Moines, Ia.; Ernest M., Marsh, Ia.; Fred, Nellie, and Hubert, of Binger, Okla. After the death of her husband, she returned from Virginia to Iowa, making her home for herself and her children on part of the old family homestead until two years ago when she went to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, to give Nellie and Hubert greater school advantages. Her health failing she went out to Fontanelle, Iowa, last November to visit her sisters.
Becoming seriously ill in December she was taken to a hospital in Des Moines where she remained until her last hours. She was a woman of marked sturdiness of character, was genuine in conduct and principle of life, a devoted, affectionate and untiring mother, a beloved sister and a kind neighbor. She was a true and faithful christian, giving her hear to the Master in her youth. She was uncomplaining, patient, trustful and thoughtful to the last. She talked of scriptures and hymns to be used at her burial. The funeral was held at Fairview last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. E. Newsom.
