Stephen G. Hunt, one of the prominent pioneers of this county, passed away last Saturday, August 26, 1905 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. D. Hamilton, in Morning Sun township, at the age of 81 years. He was borne in Wayne county, Indiana, August 26, 1824, a son of Charles and Hannah (Boone) Hunt, the father a native of North Carolina, the mother, who was a cousin of Daniel Boone, being from Pennsylvania. They settled in Wayne county, Indiana, at an early day, where Stephen was born and educated. In 1841 the family removed to Iowa locating in Franklin township, Des Moines county, from which place they came to Morning Sun township, this county, purchasing a farm of 300 acres on which the son continued to reside after his marriage in 1853 to Miss Josephine N. Curran, a daughter of Francis and Mary M. (Dell) Curran, pioneers of Louisa county, coming here in 1837.

Nine children were born to them, six of whom survive and all of whom were present at the funeral: Milton G., residing in Aurora, Ill.; Sarah C., wife of D. D. Hamilton, Morning Sun; John C., and Mrs. Sophrona A. Bell, Green Ridge,Mo.; W. P., Morning Sun; Mary Frances, wife of John T. Kenyon, Tustin, California. His wife died about two years ago. The funeral services, conducted by Rev. F. W. Adams, pastor of the Methodist church in Morning Sun, were largely attended, burial at Morning Sun.
