Mrs. Helen Castle, mother of E. C. Castle of this place, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Heizer in Las Animas, Colorado, Thursday, May 11, 1905, after a few hours sickness from a ruptured blood vessel. She was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1848, and was therefore 57 years of age at the time of her death. Her maiden name was McCulla. She came to Muscatine, Iowa, when a child, where she was married in 1869 to H. C. Castle who died in 1875, leaving her with three small children, two of whom are still living, Mrs. Sarah Heizer at Las Animas, Colorado and E. C. of this place.

She had resided most of her time for the past 34 years in Mediapolis, where he husband died and her children were reared and where she was brought for burial. Besides her two children she leaves two brothers, J. A. and T H. McCulla, of Cherokee, Iowa and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Houstin, Niobrara, Nebraska. Her mother is also still living, at the age of 88 years, making her home with Mrs. Houstin. Mrs. Castle was a good woman, a faithful member of the Presbyterian church in Mediapolis, and the loved form was laid by the side of her husband and whose name and memory she had remained faithful during her long widowhood.
