George Speidel was born February 28th, 1862, in Perry county, Ind. He was the second of six children. both parents died several years ago. He came to Iowa about three years ago, making his home with his sister. Mrs. Lewis Schwartz, engaging in farming with his brother-law-law. He owned a farm back in Indiana. Some years ago he had a severe spell of typhoid fever, from the effects of which he never fully recovered. He was a quiet, yet energetic man. At the age of twenty he became a member of the German M. E. church, uniting with the church here when he took up his residence in Wapello. Three brothers and two sisters survive him. One unmarried sister, Maggie, was in attendance at the funeral, held from the German M. E. church Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J P. Hehner. Interment in Wapello cemetery.
