Last week we noted the death and date of funeral of J. J. Ambler, who passed Feb. 23, at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 7 days. Deceased was born in Huntington, Chitendon county, Vermont, Nov. 16, 1832, where he spent his boyhood, where he spent his boyhood days. On July 4th, 1858, he was united in marriage with Miss Orpha J. Norton, who still survives him. The fruits of this union were five children, three of whom died young, the two surviving being Mrs. D. N. Farver and Mrs. W. A. Silverthorn.

When the Civil war broke out he enlisted as a private in the 13th Vermont regiment, and in 1864 came west, locating in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where he was steadily employed for twelve years at his trade of cabinetmaker in the mills of Leddham & Baugh. In 1876 he removed to Morning Sun, which at that time was making a rapid growth, and established a mill of his own. A greater part of the homes erected there during his residence were built from marerial supplied by his mill. In the year 1881 he removed to Wapello and entered the mill with Geo. Erbes.

He was a mechanic of rare ability. He was a very intelligent man, a lover of nature and a genius in many res- In his home life he was a kind husband and an idolized father. For eight years he had been a patient sufferer with the disease which terminated in his death. The funeral was held from the home Saturday, Feb. 25th, at 10 0'clock a. m., conducted by A. M. Taylor, Post G. A. R., assisted by Rev. Wm. H. Cooper.
