John Phillip Keck lived to the ripe age of 83 years, 7 months and 1 day. He had been a resident of Wapello since 1856 and was for many years engaged in business here, retiring only when the infirmities of age prevented active work. He had witnessed Wapello's commercial growth, and shared in its financial prosperity, and his death has closed a busy, well spent life. The deceased was born in Bruenee, Bavaria, Germany, May 11th, 1820.
He emigrated to America in 1856 and was soon after joined in marriage to Miss Christena Tuffentsammer, who survives him. In the same year they removed to Wapello.

Eight children were the fruits of this union, four of whom survive, namely, Mrs. Jos. Reutinger, Mrs. W. E. Filman, Mrs. E. R. Tillman and Mrs. H. W. Weber. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Bollinger, of Wapello and one living in Germany. The funeral services were held from his late home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. C. Schultze, with interment in Wapello cemetery.
