Joseph Van Auken, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Van Auken, of Columbus Junction, died very suddenly Monday morning a little before 6 o'clock. He had been in ill health for some months but much of the time had been able to work at his trade, that of barber. Saturday night he worked in Griffith's shop and was around the house as usual Sunday. Monday morning his father heard him call and started to his room at once. Before he could get to the room there was a fall and he found his son lying on the floor dead. From his position, he seemed to have been sitting on the side of the bed and to have fallen from there. Besides his father and mother, he leaves a brother and sister and a wife and two children.
