Christian Gauss died Tuesday, July 14, at the ripe age of 79 years and 16 days. The deceased was born in Germany June 28th, 1824. He came to the United States in the fall of 1852 settling in Madison, Indiana. He resided there three years and in 1855, was married to Christina Lautensehlaeger, coming to Wapello shortly afterwards. This union was blessed with the birth of one son and four daughters, two of the latter dying in childhood, and George and Mrs. Henry Wehmeyer, and another daughter living in North Dakota, with the mother, survive him. The deceased was a member of the German M. E. church, having joined that organization in 1857. The funeral services will be held from the late residence today at 10 a. m. conducted by Rev. W. C. Schultze. Interment will be made in the Wapello cemetery.
