John G. Brendel died at the home of his son-in-law, John H Wehmeyer, last Thursday afternoon about one o'clock. Internal injuries, together with a fracture and dislocation of an ankle, received at the Brown & Hayden elevator, as noted in the REPUBLIC, COLUMBUS JUNCTION, IOWAAN last week, was the cause of death. He was an old and highly respected citizen of the county, and his death is mourned by a large number of friends. John G. Brendel was born July 12, 1823, in Slesien, Germany. He married Miss Fredrick Christina Teuschner in Berlin, in July 4, 1849. In 1854 they came to America living in New Jersey 3 years, after which they came to Iowa where they have lived ever since. Their union was blessed with eight children, two of whom died Germany and four in this country. Two daughters, Mrs. August Korn and Mrs. John H. Wehmeyer, survive him. Mrs. Brendel died July 28, 1890. The funeral was held from the residence last Saturday at 10 a. m. conducted by Rev. W. C. Schultze, of the German M. E. church. Interment took place in the Mallory cemetery.
