Gustavus Jones was born in Hamilton county Ohio on the 16 day of May, 1821 and died at the home of his son-in-law Mr. Dan McKay four miles west of Wapello, September 17, 1897 at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 1 day. When quite small his parents removed to the state of Indiana. In 1836 they came to Iowa and settled in Louisa county. In 1840 he was married to Charlotte Rouse who died about eight years ago. Those who knew Mr. Jones most intimately knew him to possess a kind and benevolent heart and lived to help others. The remains were interred in the Wapello cemetery in the presence of a large number of persons who had known him for years.
