James A. Gray, of Grandview deserves more than a passing notice in the Journal. Mr. Gray's wife was Harriet E. Pigman, daughter of Hon John J. Pigman, a pioneer of Muscatine county whose home was in Sweetland township and who was a Representative in the Legislature from this county in 1855. By this union six children were born, viz. Mary C., the former wife of W. H. Gray, of Columbus Junction and Beatrice, now dead, L. Irene is Mrs. E. B. Tucker, now of Columbus Junction, Hattie, the wife of Chas. P. Wagner of Grandview township, Rev. Henry P. at present at home, but stationed at Freeland, Mich., and Velma at home. Mrs. Gray died in 1884.
