Johnson Owens was born in Jennings county, Indiana in 1833 and died in Wapello, Iowa, Friday, Jan. 29, 1897. Mr. Owens came to Iowa in 1849 and in the winter of 1866 was united in marriage with Caroline Smith, who died in 1876. To them were born 5 children, of whom 3 are living: Mrs. Dolly Keiser, Davenport; Nellie Owens, Leavensworth, Kansas; Frank Owens, Wapello.

The funeral services were held at the house of his brother, Ephraim Owens, in Wapello, on Sunday at 2 p. m., and in the interment occurred at the Wapello cemetery, Rev. Pool officiating.
