Henry Deppe was born in Germany Sept. 15, 1839. He came to this country when a young man and became a citizen of this county. He married Miss Hannah Webe Sept. 20, 1855. After the war broke out he enlisted in the 6th Iowa Inft., serving his adopted country faithfully for three year. It was during the time of this service that the seeds of ill health were sown, for never after his discharge did he enjoy robust health. For more than two years past he has been unable to perform any manual labor, much of the time confined to his room. About the latter part of July he had an attack of pneumonia from which he never recovered and which was the immediate cause of his death, Monday morning Oct. 2nd, 1893.

The funeral services were held in the English M. E. church at Long Creek, Tuesday at 11 o'clock conducted by Rev. Knehans in English, assisted by Rev. LaCornu. Besides the stricken widow he leaves six children, one son and five daughters. Mr. Deppe was an honest, industrious citizen and patriotically attached to the country of his adoption. He was a kind husband and an indulgent father and respected by all with whom he was acquainted.
