John H. Nichols was born in Westmoreland co., Pa. Aug. 1st, 1821. Died at Morning Sun, Iowa, Sept. 19th, 1893, making him seventy-two years, one month and eighteen days old at the time of his death. In 1842, when he was twenty one years old he came with his parents and four brothers and three sisters to a home one mile west of Cairo, Louisa co,. Iowa. In 1844 they moved to the home at Oakland, here it was that he lived until the spring 1880 when he with his sister, Jennie, moved to Morning Sun. On the 26th of May in 1872, in company with his brothers Geo. and Rob't he made a public profession of his faith in Christ, and united with the Oakland Presbyterian church.

Little good health has he enjoyed since an injury he received by a fall almost three years ago. A good and true man has gone, and he will be missed but his memory will be precious in the minds of many friends, and to the church of which he was a member and did so much to build up.

The funeral services were held in the Oakland church Thursday afternoon, where a large number of his old time friends and neighbors met to pay their last respects to the deceased. The services were impressively conducted by Rev.J. K. Alexander, assisted by Rev. J. H. Condit.
