Peacefully passed away the spirit of Mrs. Caroline Clapp at 7 p. m. April 27, 1892. The deceased was the wife of Dr. E. F. Clapp of Iowa City, Iowa. Caroline Ringer was born in Hagerstown, Ind, May 30, 1841 and with her parents came to Iowas when ten years of age, living first in Scott county, but coming to this county five or six years later. She was first united in marriage to Milton Barrett, then a member of the firm Harrison and Barrett, doing business in Columbus City. About twelve years ago she was married to Dr. E. F. Clapp, of Iowa City, where she has since made her home.

Mrs. Clapp spent last winter with her sisters, Mrs. W.H. Hale and Mrs. Olmstead in California returning about a month before her death. Her death resulted from a hemmorage of the bowels. Her remains were brought to Wapello Friday evening and on Saturday they were laid to rest in the Wapello Cemetery, without any service save a prayer at the grave by Rev. Willits. She leaves an aged mother, four sisters and a son, Norman G. Barrett, now in his 27th year.
