Aurilla Carr Freeland was born May 1809 in Topkins Co. N. Y. with her parents she emigrated to Ohio in 1818. In 1819 she was married to Clarence James. After 6 years she was left a widow with two children. In 1826 she was again united in marriage to Jacob Freeland. To this union were born eight children. In 1846 they came to Iowa locating in Grandview. During the cholera scourge of 1851 she was again left a widow.

She united with the Methodist church over 65 years ago. During the last 5 years she has passed through great affliction in the loss of her eyesight. She died in the fullest joys of Christian victory Jany 6, 1892. The funeral discourse was preached by her pastor, Rev. John C. Willits, at the M. E. church, Grandview.
