Hannibal J. N. Parsons died at his home in Jefferson township, after a long and painful illness, Sunday, Nov. 15th, 1891. He was born in Randolph County, now W. Va., February 24th, 1819 and came to this county at the early age of 18 with his father, Jonathan Parsons, who died March 8th, 1883. Hannibal was the oldest of three children, two brothers, Asdrubal dying before reaching manhood and Joseph J. in 1880, after rearing a family of three children two sons and one daughter, viz: D. D., A. H. and Olive L., now wife of Wm. C. Smith. The grandfather settled in Jefferson township, where the grandchildren still make their home.

Hannibal lived a bachelor, until April 27th, 1891, when he married Mary E., the widow of his deceased brother, and daughter of Fleming Coleman. Mr. Parsons was by occupation a practical and successful farmer and until his brother's death, was associated with him as an equal partner. He took a deep interest in political matters, serving for a time as County Supervisor and figuring prominently in local matters. In early life he joined the Methodist church, and though for years he claimed no connection with the church, before the close of his life he again attached himself to the church of his choice. The funeral occurred from the late residence of the deceased on Tuesday conducted by Rev. J. C. Willits.
