Mrs. Josephine M. Dotson, an esteemed resident of this community for many years, passed away at her home in Oak Street at three o'clock Tuesday afternoon, November 14th, following an illness of several months. Josephine Williams was born in Fayette county, Indiana, October 23, 1841 and came to Clinton, Iowa, with her parents that same year. In 1851 her they moved to Wapello and later she moved to Columbus Junction which has been her home for the past forty-four years.

She was married in 1861 to Wm. Welch, who was killed in the Northern army the following year, In 1866 she was united in marriage to Joseph Dotson, a veteran of the Civil War. Several years ago Mrs. Dotson was stricken with partial blindness and until his death her husband, cared for her most tenderly and kindly. He passed away November 8, 1921. Both were members of the Methodist church and faithful attendants when health permitted. Mrs. Dotson was also a member of local W. E. C and also of the Rebekahs.

She is survived by one brother, Ward Williams, of Wapello, who for the past sixteen months has assisted in caring for her. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist church and in the absence of the pastor, Rev. Dillon, were conducted by Rev. O.E. McBride of Wapello, Interment was made in the Columbus City cemetery.
