A telegram yesterday morning announced the death of Madison W. Klotz, a former Columbus Junction resident at his summer home in Manitou, Colo. He was staying with his daughter, Gertrude, and Mrs. Klotz was in Chicago with her daughter, Mrs. L. E. Shahan. Mr. Klotz was a pioneer resident of Columbus Junction and was well known through southeastern Iowa where he traveled for many years for a Burlington wholesale grocery house. He was a native of Pennsylvania and came here in an early day. He was engaged in the mercantile business in Clifton before Columbus Junction was well established as a town and later was in business here. Two years ago last spring the family moved to Minneapolis where he operated a store for a time.

Deceased was 78 years of age and is survived by his wife, five daughters and one son. They are Miss Gertrude; Miss Florence, who has been teaching in Washington state; Mrs. Winnie Butler, of Minneapolis; Mrs. L. E. Shahan, of Chicago; Miss Gretchen, of Minneapolis and Madison, Jr., of Fargo, N.D. One daughter, Mrs. Fred M. Colton, died several years ago.

The body is being shipped here for burial in the Columbus City cemetery and will arrive late Friday or Saturday morning. The funeral service will be held from the Presbyterian church here Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. W. E. Ruston. Interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
