The entire community was grieved this week by the sudden death of Mrs. Hugh R. Newell at her home in Concord township Tuesday evening, October 23, 1923. Ms. Newell, whose maiden name was Matilda S. Shellabarger, was born in Concord township, April 9, 1886. She was married December 18, 1907 to Hugh R. Newell and they went to housekeeping on a farm in this same community. She is survived by her husband and four children, three sons, Herbert, Lewis and Russell and the baby daughter born a few hours before her death. She is also survived by her mother, Mrs. Sarah Shellabarger of Fredonia and four brothers, Perry Shellabarger, of Davenport; Earl Shellabarger, of Concord; Ralph Shellabarger, of Fredonia and Russell Shellabarger, of Blue Grass. Funeral services will be held at the Pleasant Grove Bethel church Friday afternoon at 1:30 conducted by Rev. C. L. Wilson and Rev. E. E. Heltibridle. Interment will be made in the cemetery at Indian Creek.
