Mrs. Alice Gabriel. Alice Books was born in Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, September 26, 1861 and came to this county in young womanhood. She was devoted to her home and family and was ever willing to do something for others. Several weeks ago she was taken ill and later went to a Muscatine hospital where her condition gradually improved. Two weeks ago she returned home and seemed on the way to a complete recovery when suddenly she became worse and passed away quietly early Tuesday morning. Her mother, Mrs. Elmira Books, preceded her in death just a few weeks ago.

She is survived by her husband, Wm. Gabriel and one son, John, at home and one sister, Miss Ida Books of Fredonia and one brother, John in the west. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by Rev. C. L. Wilson. Interment was made in the cemetery at Indian Creek.
