Melvin A. Nelson, son of Alonzo and Agnes Nelson, was born in Johnson county, Iowa on September 22, 1883 and died in Columbus Junction, Iowa, April 14, 1923 aged 39 years, 7 months and 18 days. In 1895 he moved with his parents to a farm near Fredonia, in Louisa county, where he has lived ever since. Except six years he lived in and near Wayland, Iowa. On December 24th, 1908 he was united in marriage to Anna Wittrig. To this union were born 7 children, 4 boys and 3 girls. His mother, one sister and two infant daughters preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his early departure, his wife, five children, Cloyce, Clara, Dale, Robert and Max; his father, Alonzo Nelson; one sister, Mrs. Clara Knott; one step-son, Clarence and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the M. E. church in Fredonia conducted by Rev. Daniel Graber, pastor of the Mennonite church at Wayland.
