William Dennison Avery, who owned land and developed the original eighty acres of land upon which the town of Lone Tree now stands, died at 2:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 209 East Fifth street, Muscatine. Death was due to several strokes of paralysis, his condition having seen serious since early in January. He was 89 years old. Mr. Avery was born March 18, 1833 at Windham, Conn. He came to Iowa and settled at Lone Tree in 1856. Later he went east and then came back to Iowa, settling this time near Toolsboro. He married Miss Mary Ann Irwin, April 30, 1872 in Jefferson township, Louisa county.

After retiring from farming he lived at Columbus City until 1903 when he first went to Muscatine. Following his wife's death which occurred March 24, 1911, he moved to Wapello, where he lived until three years ago when he returned to Muscatine. He was a member of the First Baptist church. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Minnie Avery, at home and a sister, Mrs. Anna M. Bolles of New London, Conn. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon from the home. Burial will be made in the Wapello cemetery.
