S. L. Johnston, a resident of Columbus Junction for several years, died suddenly Sunday morning at his home in this city, following an attack of paralysis. Samuel Lincoln Johnston was born in Van Buren county, April 14, 1861 and was aged 61 years, 9 months and 14 days. In boyhood he accompanied his parents to Cedar county Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Miss Josephine Wagner March 22, 1883 and two years later they came to Louisa county moving on a farm northeast of this city where they resided until February 1916 they sold their farm and moved to this city. He is survived by his wife and one son, Floyd, of Concord township and one daughter, Mrs. I. V. Howenstein, of Muscatine. One son, Clement and his parents and four brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. Besides the wife and two children he is also survived by three grandchildren. Harry and Marie Johnston and Evelyn Howenstein and two sisters, Mrs. Chas. McQuillen, of Wilton and Mrs. F. D. Mitchell, of Muscatine.

About eighteen months ago he suffered a slight paralytic stroke and three others followed by a fourth attack Saturday evening from which he did not rally. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the home conducted by Rev. W. H. Dillon. Interment was made int he Indian Creek cemetery.
