B. F. Woodruff, a highly esteemed Louisa county farmer and a life long resident of the Louisa Center Neighborhood, was tragically dragged to death at his home southeast of this city last Saturday when the rope with which he was leading a colt became entangled about his body. Mr. Woodruff was leading the colt to water and lightly threw several coils of rope across his arm. The colt became frightened and started to rage and plunge. Mr. Woodruff held to the rope and threw it from his arm but in someway the coils of rope became entangled about his feet and he was thrown to the ground. Neighbors and his son-in-law, James Bennett, rushed to his assistance but before they could grab the rope the animal dashed wildly across the yard and down a rocky hill dragging Mr. Woodruff. He was unconscious when help reached him and although medical aid was hurried to him he never regained consciousness. The accident happened about 9:30 Saturday morning and about five o'clock that evening he passed away in death.

Benjamin F. Woodruff was born on the Woodruff homestead near Louisa Center in Louisa county, Iowa, October 14, 1858 and departed this life at his home on a portion of the same homestead Saturday, January 20, 1923, having reached the age of 64 years. He was married October 19, 1882 to Miss Maude S. Turner. To this union was born five children, two of whom, Nellie and Ralph preceded their father in death. He was coverted in his youth and was united with the Baptist church. At the time of his death he was a deacon in the Louisa Center church and assistant teacher of the Bible class. He leaves to mourn him besides his wife, three children, Mrs. S. G. Martin, M rs. J. L. Bennett and A. D. Woodruff of this county. A foster daughter, Mrs. Orrel D. Partington, of Fall River, Kansas, two sisters, Mrs. Leon Daily of Ainselmo, Nebraska and Mrs. W. W. Dunham of Bussey, Iowa and a brother C. A. Woodruff of Columbus Junction, twelve grandchildren and a host of friends. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Louisa Center church, conducted by Rev. C. E. Riddington.
