William Dyche, a well known young man from Letts, was killed Thursday evening, December 29th about six o'clock when struck by a car driven by Ralph Fetters, of Washington. Dyche, who was employed as a farm hand near Letts, was driving a Velio and stopped alongside the road to repair a tire. Suddenly without warning a car crashed into him from the rear and threw the car into a ditch at the side of the road, and without stopping to inquire what damage had been done, rushed on toward the west. A few minutes later an auto party noticed the wrecked car and stopped to investigate. Dyche was found in a pool of blood, his face cut and marred and both arms broken in several places. Dyche was rushed to Letts where medical aid was summoned but Dyche never regained consciousness and passed away Friday morning at 6:30.

The Muscatine sheriff took the search up immediately for the car which led to the death of Dyche. The trail let to Washington, Iowa and soon after the officials arrived in that city, Ralph Fetters, a well know farmer and cattleman surrendered himself to the authorities.

Will Dyche, was about 35 years of age and had been working on the Dalton farm, near Letts, shredding fodder. He is survived by his wife and one son, Raymond, aged 15 and three brothers, George Dyche, of Cone, Chas. J. Dyche, of Muscatine; Frank Dyche, of Rockford, Illinois and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Dyche, of Cone. Two sisters preceded him in death. Services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church at Letts conducted by Rev. R. L. Lamott. Interment was made in the Greenwood cemetery at Muscatine.
