Page 1Mrs. A. T. Lewis, for more than fifty years an esteemed resident of this community, passed away at her home on Fifth street, early Wednesday morning, May 25, 1921, following an illness of many months. Anna M. Nicodemus was born at Bedford, Penn, April 18, 1832. Here she spent her young womanhood, and March 29, 1849 she was united in marriage to William H, Rock. A few years later they came to Iowa and this community has since been her home. Twelve children were born to them, seven of whom with the father, who died February 11, 1879, preceded her to the great beyond. The children who survive are Melvin Rock, of Salt Lake City; Mrs. J. L. Bracee, of Denver, Colorado; Frank W. and Ernest G. Rock, of this city and Mrs. Bert Mumpher, of Davenport. Seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
April 1, 1884, she was united in marriage to A. T. Lewis, of this city and for more than thirty seven years they have walked happily together the declining years of old age, the husband who survives having recently passed his 89th birthday. Many years ago Mrs. Lewis was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church conducted by Rev. W. H. Dillon with interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
