Mrs. Marion Murray was drowned Sunday afternoon in the Iowa river north of this city. Mrs. Murray was with her husband and granddaughter in a buggy returning from a visit with their son, George Murray, near Nichols. They attempted to drive through the water which was flowing over the road and just midway between the railways and the bridge the buggy slipped to the side of the road and all three were thrown into ten feet of swirling muddy water. Mr. Murray with unusual presence of mind seized his wife and granddaughter and was able to keep them out of the water until help arrived but the shock and short time under water were fatal to Mrs. Murray who was dead when help arrived in a very few minutes.

Hannah Lewis was born in Pennsylvania, March 8, 1853. She is survived by her husband and five children, George Murray, of Nichols, Mrs. A. M. McCoy, of Capron, Oklahoma; Mrs. Chris Marcussen and Mrs. George Taylor, of Davenport and Alice at home. Two sisters, Mrs. M. D. McNatton, of Columbus Junction and Mrs. Henry Davis, of Rock Island, also survive her. After her marriage to F. M. Murray they lived for a number of years south of Davenport. Coming then to Louisa county they lived for many years on what is known as the Wren place moving last spring to a farm about five miles northwest of this city. The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal church in this city conducted by Rev. E. C. Brooks. Interment in the Columbus City Cemetery.
