R. H. Nichols, a pioneer of this county, who has been making his home at Fruitland for a number of years, was found dead in bed Monday morning about 8 o'clock at the home of his son, R. T. Nichols. His death is believed to have been caused by heart failure. Mr. Nichols was apparently in good health Sunday and retires seeming in his usual health. He was one of the early settlers of Louisa county living for a number of years on a farm near this city. He followed the carpenter trade a great portion of his time, moving to this city quite a number of years ago. December 24, 1873 he was united in marriage to Ellen York and to this union eight children were born. They are Viola and Cleveland, of this city; Robert, of Fruitland; Benjamin, Mrs. Mary Larson and Mrs. Ella Bell, of Fairfield; and Oliver who died about six years ago. He also leaves three sisters and two brothers in Dana, Illinois. The remains were brought to this city Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock funeral services were held in the Methodist church conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E. C. Brooks. Interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
