Mrs. J. E. Erwin died at her home a few miles north of this city, March 30, 1917, following an illness of several weeks. Katherine Nicola was born in Washington county April 28, 1875 where she spent her girlhood and grew to womanhood. She was married to James E. Erwin, November 27, 1895, and they made their home in Washington county until eight years ago they moved to a farm north of this city. In early life she united with the Baptist church at West Chester and remained a faithful member until called to her reward.

Two orphan children, Flora and Raymond were adopted in the home and given a mother's tender care. Her husband one baby daughter, four years of age and the two adopted children as well as a host of relatives and friends morn her demise. She is also survived by her aged father Marceli Nicola of Sigourney, four brothers Albert Nicola of near Conesville, George Nicola of Fairfield, Will Nicola of Wymonia and James Nicola of Sigourney and five sisters, Mrs. Clark of Washington, Mrs. James Kannouss and Mrs. Will Johnston of Wymonia and Mrs. Morarity of Des Moines and Mrs. Brink of Sigourney. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist church in this city conducted by E. C. Brooks. Interment in the Columbus City cemetery.
