Simon P. Haifley, a well known resident of Columbus City, for many years passed away at his home there at 12 o'clock Friday night, March 9, 1917. He had been ill for several months following a paralytic stroke and had also been blind for a number of years. Mr. Haifley was born in Carroll, Maryland, in December 1825, and celebrated his 91st birthday last December. Fifty years ago he came west and located in Henry county moving later to Columbus City. He was first married to Miss Miranda Flagle, who died many years ago. Five daughters born to them survive to mourn his death. They are: Mrs. Alice Davis of South Dakota; Mrs. Annie Keintz and Mrs. Emma Gouthty of Fairfield; Mrs. Fannie Ernest of Mt Pleasant and Minnie, in Indiana. He was later married to Miss Mary Hoover, who also survives him. Mr. Haifley was a member of the Church of God and was the last member of a family ten children. Mrs. C. L. Wilson, of Columbus City, was niece. The remains were taken Monday to Brighton and interment was made in the Green Mound cemetery in Henry county.
