Wm. Guthrie a prominent resident of Louisa county died at his home in Grandview, February 8, 1917. He was born in Ohio, August 5, 1843. He was married in 1866 to Miss Marietta Vandevort and to them were born four sons who with the bereaved widow mourn his death. The sons are Theodore, of Syracuse, Nebraska, Silas of Muscatine, James, of Wapello and William of Corydon, Iowa. One sister, Mrs. Mary Young and one brother, Moses Guthrie, both of Grandview, also survive. Mr. Guthrie was a kind father and loving husband an honorable soldier. He served his country faithfully for four years in the war of the rebellion. Mr. Guthrie in early life was an earnest Christian however in his later days not so active. When he died his face was lighted with the smile characteristic of those who do not die but just fall asleep.
