Following a brief illness, Mrs. Katherine Blankenhorn, formerly a resident of this county and later of Muscatine and the past few months of Davenport, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. F. Boepple, at Davenport, Thursday September 14, 1916, at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 10 days. Christine Katherine Blankenhorn was born in Dettinger, Wurthenburg, Germany, July 23, 1835. Her maiden name was Vogel. She was united in marriage to Gottlieb Blankenhorn, September 25, 1848. They lived in Germany until 1854 when they moved to America locating on a farm in New York state. After a year's time they moved to a farm in Louisa county where they resided until Mr. Blankenhorn's death in 1910 after which she lived with her son, Charles G. Blankenhorn, of Muscatine until two months ago since which time she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J. F. Boepple, of Davenport. Prior to the brief illness which terminated in her death she enjoyed remarkably good health.

She was for many years a constant and devoted member of the German Evangelical church. She is survived by four sons and four daughters, as follows: George Blankenhorn of Mapeltown, Ia, David Blankenhorn, of Crawfordsville, Iowa; Charles G. Blankenhorn, of Muscatine; Michael Blankenhorn, of Letts; Mrs. Catherine Fink, of Downs, Kan.; Mrs. Mary Uhl, of Alberta, Can.; Mrs. Rose Uhl, of Sioux City; and Mrs. J. F. Beopple, of Davenport. Four children died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Martha Stahl, died in 1901. She is also survived by 40 grandchild, 68 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. The remains were brought to this city Thursday evening and taken to the home of her son, Michael Blankenhorn, in Concord township and funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Pleasant Grove Bethel church of God at 1:30 conducted by Rev. C. L. Wilson. Interment was in the Indian Creek cemetery.
