Elnathan Bliven was born February 19th, 1860, in Louisa County, Iowa, near Columbus Junction and died at this home July 1st, 1915, in Columbus Junction at the age of 55 years, 4 months and 12 days. He was the oldest son of Hiram and Anna Gay Bliven. The aged father passed away six years ago last April and the mother nearly thirty-six years ago. He was united in marriage March 1st, 1882, at Columbus Junction, Iowa, to Miss Lina Arning and to this union three children, Minnie Leo, wife of Edgar Rabenold, of McCausland, Iowa; Sylvia, wife of Oliver Manley of Columbus Junction, Iowa and one son, Roy, who has always lived at home. He also, after the death of his sister and their mother, gave a home to Mrs. Paul Atchison and Clarence Worley, both of Denver, Colorado. He also leaves to mourn his loss five grandchildren, Lillian Bliven, Lymor, Elmer, Rodney and Robert Manley and one brother, J. J. Bliven of Fredonia, and three sisters, Mrs. Frank Pierce and Mrs. W. B. Gelatt, both of Columbus Junction and Mrs. Alex McCullough of Conesville, besides a number of relatives and friends.

Deceased came from his home to assist in caring for some horses and was run down and trampled from which he never recovered. He suffered intensely until death came and claimed him. He was conscious to the last and was ready to meet his Savior face to face. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon July 3, 1915, at the M. E. church at Columbus Junction conducted by Rev. E. C. Brooks. Interment was made in the Columbus City cemetery.
