Lafayette Boorn, one of the pioneer resident of this county died at his home at Wapello Sunday afternoon at the ripe age of 90 years, senility being the cause of his death. Mr. Boorn had been in failing health for some time, owing to his advanced years. He came to Louisa county in 1853 and continued to reside here until his death. Mr. Boorn was born at Oswego, N. Y., Sept. 3, 1824 and was married at Decatur, N. Y. to Miss Emma Rice, Oct. 19, 1846. Mrs. Boorn preceded him in death in 1910 after more than half a century of happy wedded life. He stopped at Ft. Dearborn, now the site of Chicago on his way west, but decided to continue farther west owing to the marshy condition of the soil. He located first in Morning Sun township but later removed to a farm near Long Creek where he continued to reside until 4 years ago, when he retired from actual work and took up his residence in Wapello. He is survived by nine children who are Mrs. Elmira Doty, of Kerney, Neb., John Boorn, of Muscatine, Luellen, of Wapello, Jasper, of South Dakota, Hewton, of St. Louis, Mrs. Rachel Siverly, of Morning Sun, Miss Ella, at home, Mrs. Emma Hartman and Mrs. Delia Ogier, of Muscatine. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Episcopal church Rev. McBlain having charge. Burial will be made at the Wapello cemetery.
