Horace Diehl, the son of Jonas and Caroline Stapp Diehl, was born in Lehigh county, Penna., September 12, 1841 and died at his home in Iowa City, February 18, 1915, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 6 days. Father Diehl was one of the pioneers of this part of Iowa, coming here with his parents in 1855. Nearly his whole life was spent in this vicinity. He was well and favorably known. He was married to Miss Mary Owen in 1866. They were the parents of two children, Mrs Addie Shoop, who preceded her father in death eleven years ago, and Mr. Robert Diehl of Columbus Junction. He is survived by his wife, one son, three grandchildren, Misses Alma and Alta Diehl of Columbus Junction, and Mr. Roy Shoop, of Winslow, Arizona, and a large circle of friends. The funeral services were held from the Reformed church at this place, Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in charge of Rev. C. E. Ewing. The interment was at Columbus City.
