The messenger of death touched every home with sadness in Columbus Junction Tuesday morning when the word was sent out that Miss Leota McCurley had passed away at 2:30 o'clock that morning at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mary McCurley on West Hill. Death came after a long patient struggle with tuberculosis. Leota was one of the happiest girls in Columbus Junction last September when with her school mates she began the fall term of school. In a few weeks a shortness of breath gave her some cause for alarm and after consulting local physicians she determined the latter part of December to go to the state sanatorium at Oakdale. A few weeks of consultation of the physicians decided that nothing further to aid her was in their power and she came home in the latter part of January.

Leota Alls McCurley was born near Columbus Junction, August 3, 1896 and died June 30, 1914. At the age of four she moved with her parents to this city, which has since been her home. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She is survived by her parents and two sisters, Ethel and Anna and one brother, Lloyd, all at home. She is also survived by her grandmother, Mrs. H. E. McCurley, at Austin, Minn and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Pritchard, of Garrison, Iowa. The funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at he Methodist Episcopal church at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. E. C. Brooks. Interment will be made in the Columbus City cemetery.
