Mrs. J. L. Murray, who was well know throughout all of Louisa county, died at her home in Wapello, Thursday afternoon, June 4, 1914. Mrs. Murray was one of the pioneer settler of this county. Her husband, J. L. Murray, is one of the few remaining distinguished heroes of the great Civil war. After being mustered out in 1865 at Davenport, he returned to Cairo where he engaged in farming and later in the mercantile business until about three years ago he retired and moved with his wife to Wapello, their son, Bailey Murray, assuming charge of the store.

Sarah J. Allen was a native of Belmont county, Ohio, where she was born December 5, 1844. At the time of her death she was sixty-nine years and six months of age. On the 21st of January 1867 she was united in marriage to Joseph L. Murray and to them three children were born: Sadie, deceased, J. Bailey, of Cairo and Lulu, wife of Homer Winder, of Wapello. She is also survived by her husband and a number of grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the old home church at Cairo, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. A. W. McBlain and Rev. S. A. Sydham, pastors of the Methodist and Presbyterian churches of Wapello.
